WORKING ON YOUR METABOLISM

Working on Your Metabolism

You already know that you need to work on increasing your metabolism rate if you want a toner and leaner body.

First of all, what exactly is body metabolism?

Simply put, our metabolism rate is the rate as which the body converts oxygen and fats into energy.

The body does this in two ways: 1) break down organic matter to harness energy in cellular respiration, and 2) construct components of cells such as protein, carbohydrates, and and lipids.

You don't really need to go into all that chemistry stuff. But you do need to know that without metabolism, there can be no energy and life.

If you goal is to lead a healthier and more energetic lifestyle, then you absolutely need to boost your metabolism.

Here is what will happen when you have a low metabolism.

Because you body can't seem to break down organic matter and construct cells effectively, you end up looking listless and lethargic the whole day. You lack the energy to do anything!

By the end of the work day, you are out of energy. No energy for outings with girlfriends, no energy to play with your children, and no energy to do anything else except lie down in front of the TV and rest.

Wrong move! Get OFF the couch and away from the TV!

The reason why you are feeling lethargic is because of a lack of movement. This is understandable, because in our modern society, most of us sit in an enclosed office and work in front of the computer.

The only movement is our fingers, typing away furiously, answering emails, etc.

And that sends a signal to our body saying that there is no need to work hard at converting energy.

As a result, metabolism rate starts to plummet.

The body simply refuses to work any faster or harder at energy conversion. So the extra fats end up getting stored in the body.

Who can blame the body?

After all, there is little energy consumption, so there is no need for energy conversion.

The only way to get out of this rut is to start exercising. Exercising sounds like fun to a lot of people. Yes, you will get to enjoy it (eventually).

But in the beginning, you must differentiate between leisure and having a real work.

Strolling in the park, jogging, leisurely tread mill runs, are NOT considered a workout. That is for leisure only. If you need a distraction from your work, a stroll in the park will work.

But if you are looking to build up muscle and boost metabolism, then you really need to take a look at the high intensity stuff.

Why high intensity?

Because high intensity helps to break down the micro fibres in your muscles. Your muscles need to know that you DEMAND such intensity from it. Therefore, it will respond accordingly and grow.

You know you have got a good workout when you feel your muscles getting REAL sore the next day. If you go for a leisurely walk, you certainly won't feel any soreness. That is not working out.

Soreness is good for you. To get to that point, you need to keep working out until muscle failure. I.e. you can't lift another repetition of the weight.

Rest for at least 48 hours before your next workout. That is to allow ample time for your muscles to grow. Now is the time to feed your muscles, and that involves eating right.

But one thing at a time. Let's stick to working out.

If you haven't exercised for a long time, even a simple workout will give you sore muscles. Work according to your own fitness level.

If unsure, always consult a certified fitness coach.

The next time you try the workout, you will immediately notice that you can lift heavier weights, or do more repetitions without getting tired. That's because your muscles have grown.

Your muscle grows because you DEMAND that it grows. If you don't place any demands on them, they grow weak. The fitness gurus call this resistance training.

Yes, there is no avoiding resistance training if you want to become fit and healthy. You MUST do strength training if you want to improve your metabolism rate.

Again, remember - NO slow tempo stuff.

If you want to workout, go for HIGH INTENSITY or nothing.

After your workout, you must now feed your muscles for it to grow. That means learning to eat right. Having the proper female bodybuilding diet is the next step.
