IFBB stands for International Federation of Bodybuilders. This is an international organization and the standards set by this organization is very strict. As a result, there is much value in being given an IFBB pro card. Many fitness models and professionals aspire to become a pro IFBB.

The contests are divided into many different categories, according to weight. There are both male and female categories. Unlike conventional bodybuilding contests, IFBB contests emphasizes more on fitness. So there are more energetic routines as opposed to posing routines. Participants are judged on their level of fitness, muscle mass, fat percentage, as well as overall appearance.

So for female bodybuilders, it doesn't help to consume supplements that are steriods based. Such supplements will make you look more like iron-lady and your body won't be suitable for IFBB competitions. Women who consume non-steriod based supplements will have much more feminine and healthy looking bodies, which is what the judges will be looking for.

So how low should the fat percentage be? The average female will have a body fat percentage of around 20%. Usually, 20 to 23 percent is the acceptable health range. For athletes and those who lead an active lifestyle, body fat percentage can drop to 10 to 14 percent. This is already a very good range and in many cases, you will be able to see muscles bulging out from the declining fat.

But for IFBB contestants, due to the strict standards set by the IFBB organization, female bodybuilders tend to have a much lower body fat percentage - into the single digits. It is not uncommon for contestants to have 3 to 4 percent body fat.

Bear in mind that this is not the everyday body fat percentage. Contestants take extreme measures to bring down their body fat percentage ONLY for competition days. After that, their body fat percentage goes back up to 7 to 10% or more.
