Does Glutamine Help Muscle Growth?

Glutamine is a very commonly seen supplement that are taken by bodybuilders. First, let's take a look at what is Glutamine, so that we can begin to understand how it helps in muscle growth.

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that resides in our blood and muscles. It can be found in many ordinary day to day foods such as fish, poultry, spinach, and beans. Some protein powders also contain Glutamine.

So why consume Glutamine?

Glutamine helps to boost the metabolism of the body. After an intense workout, studies have shown that the Glutamine levels in the body depletes by as much as 50%.

If the Glutamine is not replaced, the bodybuilder's immune system may weaken, and there may even be muscle loss. And muscle loss is never a good thing for bodybuilders. You want more muscles, not less.

Therefore, many fitness experts recommend to take at least a small serving of Glutamine after an intense workout. This will help preserve the muscles, and help the muscles to grow faster.

There have been reported cases of stomach upsets during to a sudden large intake of Glutamine, but such cases are rare. If you experience a stomach upset after consuming Glutamine, try taking smaller servings.

Like Creatine, this supplement is relatively cheap compared to other health supplements.

A 200 serving bottle costs just about $30. Each serving is about 5g.

When you are building muscles, you are focusing on just two aspects.

(1) Prevent muscle wastage.
(2) Encourage muscle growth.

When you are consuming protein, you are encouraging muscle growth. Muscles feed on proteins. So you need to take a fair amount of protein if you want your muscles to become stronger.

In order for you to do that, you have to workout at least 3 to 4 times a week. When you workout intensely, you start breaking down your muscles. You stress your muscles so that it will respond and grow.

During this whole process, you want to make sure that you don't experience muscle wastage.

Here's what I mean.

If you keep working out but fail to employ any kind of protective mechanism to prevent your muscles from growing weaker, you will have a harder time trying to grow your muscles.

That is because the process is slowed down drastically by the weakened muscles.

When you have an intense workout, you notice that your muscles are sore the very next day.

The longer you take to recover, the longer you will take to grow the muscles. You can't workout with ultra sore muscles. So there's little you can do except wait.

That is why you should consume supplements like Glutamine, Creatine, or proteins. Glutamine helps to prevent your muscles from becoming weaker. So you end up healing faster and can workout more.

The more you repeat this cycle, the more strength you will build. And the faster you repeat this cycle, the faster you will achieve your goals.
